Davidson Optronics Plano Interferometer with 5-inch working aperture. This interferometer is a type of Mirau system using a ‘divider plate’ to split the light between the reference surface (the back of the divider plate – the front of the the plate acts as the beam-splitter) and the workpiece.
The divider plate is the heart of the interferometer, and it is flat to 1/20 wave, yielding an accuracy of 1/10 fringe. Operation is simple. The workpiece (which should be reflective and relatively flat) is placed on the fixed leveling stage. The interferometer may be adjusted above the workpiece through a distance of 6 inches, so very large samples may be accommodated. A monochromatic light source is directed through a pinhole aperture via a beam-splitter to the collimation objective which is above the divider plate. Interference fringes produced by the divider are observed through the ocular after being directed to the eyepiece by the beam-splitter. Fringe spacing and direction may be adjusted using the leveling screws on the workpiece support platform.
The interferometer is very heavy and stable (about 135 pounds). Flatness may be easily determined to 0.000 001 inches.
Interferometer is in superb optical and cosmetic condition – no defects could be detected on any of the optical surfaces. Please see photos. Mechanically everything is in first-class condition. Monochromatic source is not included.
The instrument can be calibrated and certified by Davidson for an additional $580 plus shipping.
