This item is a Spectra Physics / Coherent mirror mount for 2 inch optics. It is not a true gimbal mount – the tilting plate is referenced against a large ball bearing in one corner of the mount, and the adjacent corners against a pair of micrometer spindles.
These mounts are quite compact – the overall size of the tilting plate is only 3.75 by 3.75 inches, and the supporting plate adds an additional 0.625 inches to the nominal optic axis height (2.500 inches with base included).
Range of tilting motion in both the azimuth and elevation axes is on the order of plus or minus 2 degrees. The retaining cell for the mirror will accommodate mirrors up to 0.500 inches in thickness, and of 2 inches diameter. Mirrors thinner than 0.250 inches will require some sort of shim.
The mounts are only about 1.125 inches in thickness, and use special stubby micrometer spindles to minimize the mount footprint. The baseplate is 2.375 inches deep, and 2. 813 inches wide. It is secured to the carrier plate in such a way that the front of the mount is still proud of the front of the base.
The mounts are in very good condition. The anodizing on some of them has faded more than on others, but mechanically they are in perfect functional condition. All include the mirror retaining rings.
