Product Description
This is an Oriel Type 7340 Monochromator Illuminator. This item (in current production) has numerous advantages as a companion to various monochromators and spectrometers. The collector system consists of a single coated mirror of an aperture and focal length suited to match most 1/8 meter monochromators. Using a mirror as a collector insures constant focal length throughout the spectral range of the system.
A very nice feature of the lamphouse is the ability to install two lamp sockets. The collimation mirror is on a precision bearing pivot and may be switched easily between the two sources. One source could be optimized for UV, for instance, and a second source for visible. There are a total of 16 lamp sockets available for this illuminator ranging from UV high-pressure arc lamps and Deuterium lamps to special IR element holders.
This lamphouse is equipped with the Infrared element holder type socket. There is a cooling fan on the opposite side from the light port, which my be easily removed for cleaning. The mirror system is also removable, either to exchange against the optional motorized mirror (for automated switching between sockets) or for the installation of the optional adjustable light shield. (Neither of these options are included with this lamphouse. The lamphouse does have the optional side-mounted access port.
The part number for the lamphouse is 7340. I am not quite sure which IR element holder is included (perhaps they are all identical) – only one is listed in the current catalog, that being 73906. No source power supply is included.
The lamphouse is in near-flawless condition – the fan uses its own line cord, and functions properly. The mirror is in very fine condition without any scratches. Date of manufacture is Sept 1983, but from its appearance, it could have left the factory last week. The socket is likewise in excellent condition (leads pliable and without cracks in the insulation). Socket has controls for centration of the element (height and focus). Right-to-left adjustment of the source is accomplished with the adjustable stop settings on the mirror switching unit.
