Product Description
This is an Opto Power Corporation Diode Pumped IR Laser, Model OPC-B015-805-FCPS with a remote control panel. The laser was manufactured in December of 1996, and is in excellent functional condition. The only ‘cosmetic’ issue appears to be a missing dress panel on the bottom of the laser power supply – the recess on the bottom of the unit is open to the bottom.
Fiber bundle is standard type steel-clad and appears to be terminated in an FSMA type threaded connector. The ferrule diameter is 3.175mm The bundle is a mutli-fiber type (not a single-strand communications fiber). Bundle length is 32 inches.
There is no ‘master power’ switch on the system – uses standard IEC type cord, and is wired for 110V. Once plugged in, the fans start to operate and the ‘Standby’ LED in the central pair of switches comes on. After a moment you can touch the ‘Ready’ switch which enables the laser to be activated by the red ‘Laser ON / OFF’ switch. There are independent readouts of Diode Temperature and Diode Drive Current, both of which are adjustable using multi-turn pots. A pilot warning lamp is illuminated when the laser is on.
I believe the B015 denotes the output power of the laser (15W), while the 805 denotes the wavelength. I stopped turning the ‘drive current’ pot once it reached 20 Amps, but I had no way of monitoring the output power. (Under higher drive currents there was a visible red glow on a matte white glass plate, however my camera was unable to record it properly).
