Product Description
IMPORTANT NOTE This mount is missing the spring-loaded clamping ring
This item is a Klinger (also known as Micro-Controle, and now manufactured by Newport) SL type Gimbal optic mount. The SL gimbals are characterized by massive steel construction with two mounting flats for orthogonal positioning of the tilting axes so the controls are on the right or left side of the beam path. The two planes of tilt perfectly intersect the plane of the optic (often a mirror) so adjusting azimuth or elevation results in the reflection point always being stationary on the optic axis. The elements are held in place by a spring-loaded ring. There are three small bearing points to precisely locate the optic in the main yoke, and another three within the spring-loaded clamping ring (this ring is absent). The securing screws are not quite symmetrically placed to aid in removal of elements through the slightly larger opening.
This particular gimbal mount uses the type BHc locking adjusters. The adjustment screws are set with an Allen wrench, and the collar is tapped in four places for convenient access to a set screw for locking the adjustment screw. The sensitivity of these adjusters matches that of the standard BM micrometers – about 1 micron.
Specification on this particular gimbal mount include:
Optic diameter – 40mm
Optic thickness – between 1 and 12.5mm
Outside diameter – 99mm
Clear aperture of mount – 36mm
Approximate thickness of mount – 30mm (less micrometers)
Angular adjustment range – plus /minus 3 degrees
The mounts are in excellent condition – micrometers fully functional throughout range. There may be some very light surface corrosion present but it is very minimal. Photo is typical of condition. The mounts do NOT come with the adapter plate. Presently we do not have any adapter plates with the proper hole spacing for these mounts (34mm). If an adapter is absolutely required, one of the SKU #DP251 adapter plates could be purchased and the appropriate pair of holes drilled and counterbored.
