Product Description

Here is an excellent Taylor, Taylor & Hobson universal alignment telescope. The model number is 112 / 636. The ocular is positioned for straight-line viewing. There are paired micrometer dials that read to plus or minus 0.050” directly in 0.001’s. One dial is for azimuth deviation, the other is for elevation. The telescope has to be installed with the dials at a 45-degree orientation in order for the measurements to be performed in the appropriate planes – this is true of all 636 telescopes. On each of the dials are a pair of adjustable segment stops that may be positioned as ‘go / no-go’ indicators – they are easily set independently of each other and clamped in place with the single pan-head screw in the center of the dial. The instrument may be focused anywhere between infinity and directly in front of the objective (near-focus option). There is an auto-reflection target installed on the objective so the telescope may be used in an autocollimation type mode (auto-reflection). The collimator is in near-perfect condition (optical condition is perfect). Mechanically all four motions work effortlessly and smoothly (line-of-sight offset azimuth and elevation, object focus, and reticle focus). Cosmetic condition is very fine – there are a few very minor scuffs in the enamel of the housing. The Bakelite collar for the ocular dioptre adjustment has a portion broken away, but it is still functional. This would be an easy component to replace should the buyer wish to do so. There is also a trace of very light corrosion in the chrome of one of the deviation graduated drums. Location Display 7-4 Photo set 637
