Product Description
This item is without manufacturer’s mark. The mirror cell will accept an 8-inch diameter optic up to 2 inches in thickness. The mounting appears to be fashioned after Unertl – a central pivot point with a spring-loaded piston and two adjustment screws. However, instead of a ball & socket pivot as in the Unertl, this uses a universal joint for the pivot point. The adjustment screws are simply micrometer spindles instead of the special spindles and knobs found in the typical Unertl mounts. Another similarity with the Unertl mount is the notched locating pad and spherical bearing of one of the spindles.
The supporting angle plate and baseplate are machined of ½” aluminum plate with elongated slots for mounting bolts. All aluminum parts are simply painted black – they do not appear to have been anodized, and the paint has been scuffed in several places. Base plate dimensions are 9 inches long and 6 inches wide. The optic axis sits approximately 5.5 inches from the base.
The shear weight of the mounting serves to remove any play in the universal joint pivot, and the adjustments work very smoothly. One of the photographs shows a mirror installed in the mount – it is NOT included with the mount.
