Product Description
The L360NMP Autocollimating Eyepiece Adapter is interposed between the Gaertner measuring microscope and the ocular. It replaces the standard eyepiece adapter tube. The adapter consists of a beam-splitting prism centered on the optical axis and at right angles to an illuminated dark field circle reticle. The reticle is adjustable so it can be made parfocal with the crossline in the included eyepiece adapter. The object that is being leveled is then normal to the optic axis when the reflected image of the circle is centered on the cross line.
This device does not include the illuminator socket or transformer, but a simple LED illuminator would be sufficient. The cross line reticle is of the later type of material - a rigid monofilament plastic about 0.00025 inches in diameter. This is superior to spider line because if it is broken on one side, the portion of the filament that remains doesn't float free - it is still positioned in the proper direction and remains in the correct plane. This crossline has a small break on one side so about one sixth of the line is absent, but the cross itself is not affected. The user could install a glass reticle if desired.
There is no calibration of the offset (that would depend on the objective being used) so this is really intended for simple auto collimation tasks. The illuminator is an accessory that was optionally supplied with the Gaertner research optical benches. It is in excellent condition. The photographs do not show the ocular adapter installed but it is included. In appearance it is similar to that used on the erecting prism adapters.
