Product Description
This is quite an unusual pair of items. The main component is a collimator of 15 inch focal length and 1.5" aperture. It was produced by Beck as one of the components for their precision optical bench. The objective is a cemented triplet of high correction. Resolution is 4 arc seconds, and the field subtended is roughly 4 degrees. There is a precision multiple cross-line target at the focal plane.
The second component is a special mounting sleeve that threads into the 4-inch diameter threaded adapter ring for any of the five inch carriers for the precision optical bench. Adapters are also available to fit the 9-inch carriers. The bore is a bit larger than 2.25 inches, and the sleeve length is approximately 9 inches.
The collimator is in great condition - the objective has no discernable defects, and the target looks unblemished. The sleeve has a few very minor chips in the enamel but is otherwise fine. A fully configured precision optical bench would set you back about $750,000 fifteen years ago The bench alone without any carriers was over $90,000. The bench was last distributed in the USA by the Ealing Corporation. This was the smaller of two collimators that were standardly produced for the bench.
